Sec 1 CCA Orientation

It is quite tiring and sian but fun... (?!)

Why tiring?
Cos we have to play songs for the sec ones to hear again and again

Why sian?
Cos we have to play THE SAME SONGS (our repetua only got 3 songs) for the sec ones to hear AGAIN AND AGAIN

Why fun?!
Cos we jammed songs the are not included in our repetua and we sight-read Persis
And because of our PROs (Public Relations Officers) who introduced the sec-1s to the band by giving a quite-quite humorous speech:

Speech for Band Orientation 2008

Good Morning Sec 1s,My name is Bo Dong. As Public Relations Officer, I am honoured to introduce the Hwa Chong Institution Band to you.

First, allow me to explain what BAND truly means in Hwa Chong, by deconstructing the word BAND.

B
1. B stands for BLOOD. The magnificent sounds of the Hwa Chong Institution Band will make your blood curdle and give you a HEART-ATTACK. As you listen to the songs the band plays later, understand that the band is playing from the heart. It would not have achieved so many accolades, had it not been for the sincere efforts of every single band member.

2. B stands for BEST FRIENDS FOREVER. In HCIBand, EVERYBODY wants to be your friend. We view bonding and teamwork as integral to the growth of the entire band. Thus we organize annual camps and section lunches in hope that band members can feel at home, in band.

3. B stands for BU DAO WENG. Even if you try and push the band down the band will spring back and SMACK YOU in the face! The Bu Dao Weng is testament to the values of HCIBand: perseverance, dedication and a commitment to excellence. Standing tall always, in Sediya position.

A
1. A is for ADVENTUROUS. For the past few decades, HCIBand has been constantly overcoming barriers and doing the school proud. It has been relentless in coming up with new gimmicks, to wow the school as well as Singapore. Also, it is experimenting with a new sound, for this year’s outdoor SYF. The band also holds exchanges with other school bands, both local and overseas.

2. A is for ADRENALINE-PUMPING. The Hwa Chong Institution Band puts strong emphasis on its outdoor performance. Discipline and endurance are necessary for a band to excel. Furthermore, the marching and playing will leave you breathless and GASPING for MORE. Join HCIBand to become a tougher man.

3. A is for ADDICTIVE. However, Band is EXTREMELY healthy and cathartic. Join band! You will find yourself hooked instantly. The conductors and band members are friendly. The facilities are top-notch. The teachers-in-charge are kind and understanding. Band is more addictive than drugs.

N
1. N stands for NOOB. ALL noobs are welcome to join the Hwa Chong Institution Band. It’s doesn’t matter if you’re a fat noob, a skinny noob, a tall noob, a short noob. HCIBand wants YOU. Even if you have no musical background, even if you don’t have excellent marching skills, HCIBand is willing to train you. As long as you are passionate about band and come for every practice, we will train and mould you to become a better person.

2. N is for NITROGEN. As some of you might know, 78% of air consists of nitrogen. Like Nitrogen is to air, the Band is a domineering force in the local band scene. It has won many achievements in both indoor and outdoor arenas and still proves to be a strong competitor today.

3. N stands for NICE. The band instructors here are nice and a lot more. They are extremely jovial and friendly. All of them crack jokes, which make band very enjoyable. They are also qualified and driven towards bringing HCIBand to greater heights. Professionalism is guaranteed.

D
1. D is for DYNAMITE. The Hwa Chong Institution Band will EXPLODE in your FACE!

2. D is for DEFINITE. The Hwa Chong Institution Band is definitely the choice for you!

3. D is for VICTORY! With the Hwa Chong Institution Band, you are sure to win.

Thank you. I shall now pass the time to Bu Fan, student conductor of the Hwa Chong Institution Band! (claps)

The "D is for VICTORY" was supposed to be "funny" but nobody thought so...

Not all classes came to the band hall. guess that their "buddies" and them wanna go home early and skip band...

We had quite a big interval and no classes came in for quite a long time and we thought that it was over but suddenly Bo Dong opened the door and we saw a big group of people outside and he shouted "F! 1F! F!"

Compared to last year i think we had more classes coming in to hear us this year

The standards of the sec-1s with musical background who signed up are quite high:
There is one with flute background
There is one eith trumpet background
There is one taking grd 5 piano this year
There is a handful taking grd 6 piano this year
There is one taking grd 8 piano this year
And there is one with a piano diploma OMG!

Hope that they put band as 1st choice!

Thanks goodness there is a guy with trumpet bg.
He may be the future SL...

*Cheers!
